Just say Thanks…

Thanksgiving

Today is thanksgiving. Yes, I know it’s an American thing, but why not set aside a day every year to intentionally count your blessings, to be thankful? But then again, why wait for just one day in the year to express your gratitude?

Every Thanksgiving, I try to thank a few people who have made a difference in my life. Like the person who offered me a job and brought me to Australia and made it possible for me to move and settle in a new country. Today I am an Australian and so grateful that I am and thankful for that job offer that made it possible for me to forge a new life over here and adopt this beautiful country as my own.

How about the friend who has stood by you through thick and thin – talked you down off the ledge; laughed with you, cried with you?

Why not send someone a note, a message or make a phone call; have a time of thanksgiving with your family over dinner. Grand gestures are not needed. Sometimes a simple ‘thanks – you made life better for me’ is enough.

I look forward to this day every year so I can be intentional about showing my gratitude. Of course, we don’t have to wait for 1 day a year to appreciate what we have and those we do life with. We should make gratitude, thankfulness a habit – always be on the lookout for things in our day to be thankful for. The people in our lives should know how we feel about them while we still have the opportunity to tell them because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

So happy Thanksgiving and let the thankfulness begin…
